Big Data has arrived in business, we're told. But what exactly is it, and more importantly, what does that mean for Human Resources? Is it just more numbers, or can it help us understand our workforces in more meaningful ways? Perhaps most critically, if so much more information about can be collected, analyzed, and put to use, how do we maintain trust, confidentiality, and compliance?
My new article, "A Critical Incident for Big Data," explores these themes and looks at the challenges and opportunities they present to HR, with particular focus on I-O Psychology. You can find a full copy in the latest issue of The Industrial-Organizational Psychologist (TIP), a quarterly news and research publication for the Society of Industrial-Organizational Psychologists (SIOP). The article begins on page 16.
