PepsiCo hires the highest percentage of veterans as a proportion of its workforce of any Fortune 50 company, and Walmart hires the most veterans of any private sector company. The data, reported on today by Jim Tankersley at The Washington Post, comes from a new Veteran Hiring Index developed through data analysis by Bright. At the opposite end of the Fortune 50 were Apple, Prudential Financial, and MetLife, who hired the fewest veterans proportional to resumes received out of the group of companies. (Five of the 50 companies were unable to be ranked due to insufficient data.)
Bright developed the Veteran Hiring Index by dividing the total number of veterans hired by each company within the Fortune 50, then dividing by the number of resumes observed for each company. After controlling for company size, Bright's scientists ranked the results on a scale from 0.00 to 1.00.
