The Purchasing and Inventory Director oversees the materials management and purchasing functions to ensure profitable sales growth.
  • Manage inventory availability and service to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Manage suppliers to maximize asset utilization, service and first cost performance
  • Manage operating costs within planned levels
  • Develop strategic and operational plans to achieve results and ensure alignment with company goals and objectives
  • Set goals for the work group, manage execution and measure results
  • Select, manage, develop and evaluate staff
  • Direct MMP staff and plan/schedule workloads
  • Prepare annual MMP operating budgets and manage centralized administrative staff
  • Support pricing/sales/inventory promotions and new product programs
  • Implemant and maintain standard operating procedures; establish, maintain and conduct quality process; comply with company audit requirements
  • Direct purchasing function
  • Establish preferred supplier programs
  • Establish and maintain supplier performance metrics programs/evaluations
  • Assess market place positions for commodity items and recommend positions/buying programs
  • Lead strategic selection of suppliers and long/short term volume, product supply and aggressive first cost positions
  • Review and approve all supplier and item additions to be consistent with region asset management and service goals
  • Negotiate supplier terms and conditions with focus on extending terms and maximizing cash discounts
  • Develop subject matter expertise for the product lines/suppliers used and establish effective lines of communication/relationships with major suppliers
  • Direct materials management
  • Establish productive, efficient replenishment planning and inventory control practices and procedures
  • Establish inventory performance metrics and drive organization to meet asset goals
  • Maintain replacement costs in RPS system in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support major RFP preparations of product costs, systems and outsourcing models for materials management
  • Forecast, plan, procure and control Stock and SO inventory requirements
  • Manage Customer Order Fulfillment Cycle (order receipt, review, edit, acknowledgement, pricing, costing, picking, packing, shipping and billing) to ensure optimal inventory availability for target service levels
  • Actively maintain programs to reduce inactive excess stock
  • Maintain and upgrade applicable systems and training to be effective for planned work requirements
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Knowledge of supply chain management, strategic sourcing, vendor management, inventory and warehouse methods and procedures
  • Understanding of contract laws, negotiation, implementation, and performance management
  • Knowledge of industry, including suppliers, customers and competitors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including coaching and conflict management

  • Ability to oversee people and processes to achieve objectives

  • Minimum of 10 years of industrial distribution experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of management supervision experience
