Assist attorneys in a variety of legal matters, particularly (1) state insurance regulatory filings and compliance, as well as (2) vendor contracting. Responsibilities will include legal research, preparing and reviewing contracts and regulatory filings, collecting information relevant regulatory requirements and filings; and maintaining accurate and current records.
Regulatory Matters
Research and analyze law sources such as statutes and regulations, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, state insurance department publications, and National Association of Insurance Commissioner activity, prepare and update summaries on a timely basis.
Draft routine state filing documents, including those required by State Insurance Holding Company laws and regulations, Uniform Certificate of Authority Applications, and related insurance company licensing documents.
Create and maintain a calendar of critical state regulatory filing dates and requirements, keep attorneys and other interested parties advised of upcoming deadlines.
Assist in the development and creation of effective presentation and training documents to be used by attorneys in providing guidance to business areas in areas including state and federal gift law compliance and related state contractor requirements.
Coordinate and respond to requests from multiple business areas involved in the state regulatory process by way of consistent and timely communication with all interested parties.Vendor Contracting
Review, draft and negotiate agreements, amendments, statements of work and other legal documents based upon model agreements and standard forms, including preparation of related correspondence.
Assist in creating and maintaining templates/form agreements.
Assist in preparing training materials and presentations. Make sure that contracts and related documents are consistent with company policies and standards and obtain appropriate authorizations and approvals.
Related projects as required.
General
Participate in special administrative and legal research projects as requested.Education / Work Experience
Associates Degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
Minimum 2 years paralegal experience required.
Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-certified program preferred.
Superior attentiveness to detail, effective interpersonal skills to communicate with state insurance department personnel, internal clients, and attorneys.Other
Superior grammar, writing and proofreading skills
Knowledge of state insurance regulatory requirements and procedures a plus
Experience with vendor contracting and procurement procedures aplus
Resourceful research and analytical skills
Solid interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Word Excel and PowerPoint)
Proficient in Workshare/Deltaview or similar document comparison applications
Experience with contract management solutions and working with Procurement
Experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating vendor contracts and related documents
Proficiency in Westlaw and Lexis Nexis online research preferred
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Ability to manage time and tasks effectively
Able to maintain strict confidentiality
