Entry Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting and/or a related field, including at least eighteen semester units in accounting, finance, or economics.

CPA or CIA certification is required.

Minimum of four years of progressively responsible professional audit experience, either in public accounting or internal audit, including in-charging/ managing audits and supervising/directing staff. Prefer healthcare focus.

Strong knowledge of audit procedures, generally accepted auditing standards, internal control documentation, risk assessment, preferably as related to healthcare.

Experience in all phases of the audit process including planning, developing and leading audits; providing guidance and technical assistance to other professional staff; and ensuring the completeness, accuracy and objectivity of audit assignments.

Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data; identify and communicate all the elements of a finding; recognize and evaluate the materiality and significance of audit and compliance issues.

Strong interpersonal, technical, and written/verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.

Ability to understand, interpret, and apply complex regulations and/or procedures.

Strong project management skills including the ability to work independently, establish priorities, assist/direct staff and complete multiple projects in a timely, organized manner.

Proficient with computers and various software, including strong Word and Excel skills. Must be adaptable to new software systems, including materials management, billing, clinical, and financial systems.

Organization

The position reports to the Director of Internal Audit/Corporate Compliance Officer (Director).

Under general direction of the Director of Internal Audit,plans, performs and/or supervises audits of considerable scope and complexity, conducts risk assessments, and completes other special projects.

The position interacts with staff, department directors, and administrative personnel in virtually all other departments and affiliates, as well as external parties such as consultants and external auditors in a complex multi-entity environment.

Specific Duties

  • Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.
  • Assists the Director on developing the annual Internal Audit/Corporate Compliance Plan and overall risk assessment for the Munson Healthcare system.
  • Coordinates, supervises and/or singularly conducts internal audit assignments, reviewing the efficiency and effectiveness of departmental operations, the adequacy of internal controls, assessing risk and verifying compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Establishes audit objectives and develops audit program, including time estimates, plan of work, and steps necessary to collect data and document findings subject to review and approval by the Director of Internal Audit. Uses a variety of data analysis techniques and innovative approaches to identify significant risk areas and to ensure the completeness, accuracy and objectivity of internal audit assignments
  • Monitors work assignments to ensure timely completion; and performs detailed primary reviews of work papers and report drafts to ensure completeness, accuracy, objectivity and consistency with auditing standards, subject to final review/approval by the Director.
  • Assists Director on coordinating coverage with the external auditors and ensure that each party is not only aware of the other's work but also well briefed on areas of concern
  • Provides guidance and technical assistance to other professional staff.
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills while handling multiple projects.
  • Maintains current knowledge of developments related to business matters of interest to internal audit, particularly legislation changes and developments as they affect the Munson Healthcare system, and new auditing techniques and practices
  • Works as an integral part of the Internal Audit team as a leader/mentor, sharing knowledge with co-workers while developing personal capabilities.
