Responsibilities

  • Support/monitor weekly data load process.
  • Create jobs, procedures, functions, SSIS packages to support weekly data load and web application.
  • Performance Tune database objects.
  • Create input and export XML processes.
  • Create and maintain database logical and physical models.
Requires skills and expertise that are normally obtained only after the individual has worked several years on a variety of projects and has become familiar with a range of tools and techniques. Operates at the system level and has expertise and skills that apply across the full system life cycle from requirements through database design and implementation. Often has solid system design and development skills as well as database-related skills. However, the Database Engineer’s focus is database-centric, based on the understanding that the heart of every information system is the database, but with a solid view of how the database integrates and operates with other system components. Skills include defining data and database requirements, defining database design alternatives, designing logical data models, and designing physical databases. Requirements and design activities include security, backup and recovery, and availability considerations. May be a skilled DBA, as is often the case, but in all cases understands advanced database concepts such as replication or parallel operations and knows when, from a system perspective, to apply them as part of the engineered solution. Should have the ability to set up and test different design scenarios (or to direct these activities) early in the system development life cycle as part of the process of validating the suitability of proposed design alternatives. Test scenarios must generate sufficient performance data to support database design decisions.

Qualifications

  • Usually requires five to seven years’ experience and a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and related experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL 2008 - 2012 supporting both OLTP and OLAP database types
  • Experience in T-SQL, creation of stored procedures, functions, and jobs.
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services.
  • Experience with XML.
  • Experience with BCP importing of large volumes of data.
  • Experience with performance tuning databases and web applications along with tuning of indexes on large tables.
  • Experience with load balancing web application workloads.
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of conceptual, logical and physical data models required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with C#, JavaScript, ASP.NET a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain security clearance. Current clearance a plus.
