Job Summary Primary technical resource for assigned facilities to help develop, implement, monitor and continuously improve thermal processing systems. Ensure facilities operate in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Support corporate Product and Packaging Development, Innovation and plant initiatives.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain all aspects of thermal processing for compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Function as liaison between plants and corporate staff on thermal processing issues.
    • Evaluate data generated during temperature distribution and heat penetration studies through the use of related computer software.

  • Create Thermal Process Schedules basis analyses of data generated during Heat Penetration and Thermal Death Time studies.
    • Evaluate process deviations and product spoilage associated with thermally processed products.

  • Train and supervise Product Development and Pilot Plant thermal processing personnel for safe operation of retort simulators.
    • Develop and participate in the Retort Operator Training Program.

  • Lead thermal processing plant audits.
    • Develop process metrics to anticipate potential problems and recognize existing problems that could affect product safety and quality.

  • Review and develop Thermal procedures and review HACCP plans annually.
    • Support plant management through regulatory audits, plant inspector challenges and other thermal processing issues.

  • Support plants in answering and tracking NR's (Noncompliance Record).
    • Assess NRs with plant management as necessary prior to registering appeals.

  • Facilitate implementation of corrective action responses to address thermal processing trends.
    • Support plant trial and commercialization CQV (Cetification, Qualification, Validation) process for R&D and plant initiatives.
    Position Qualifications
  • BS in Engineering, Food Science or related field required; MS preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of food industrial experience in thermal processing required.

  • Experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food including process filing with FDA. International experience is a plus.
    • Understanding of food manufacturing processes and food safety.

  • Experience in using a full range of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals.
    • Proficient in Calsoft and MicroSoft Office

  • Great interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Proven relationship and team building skills.

  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
    • May travel up to 40% of time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible ConAgra Foods representative.

    • Standing for up to 6 hours a day performing tests in a pilot plant or plant (may be wet) environment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
