Description

The National Wild Turkey Federation has an immediate opening for a regional biologist. This position will be responsible for all facets of the NWTF's habitat conservation and wild turkey and upland wildlife management programs in California and Nevada.

Duties

  • Work cooperatively with state and federal agencies on habitat initiatives and focal areas
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the California and Nevada NWTF State Chapters to administer to accomplish the goals and objectives of their state strategic plans
  • Provide oversight and coordination for conservation activities addressing forest health issues affecting important habitat for the wild turkey and other upland wildlife on both public and private lands
  • Develop major conservation funding opportunities and gifts by working with private individuals and corporate sponsors
  • Secure grants, contracts and additional agency and non-governmental organization partnerships to further NWTF's mission delivery
  • Develop written wildlife management plans for private landowners
  • Develop, track and provide oversight for grants and agency agreements
  • Develop and monitor stewardship proposals and agreements with the US Forest Service for the enhancement of forest and wildlife resources
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a science-related field and demonstrated knowledge of wildlife management, forestry and ecology; a Master's degree with at least four years of related experience is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Experience in major or planned gift fundraising. A proven track record of developing major gifts related to conservation is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas
  • Experience working with state and federal agencies and private landowners; grant writing and administration; Farm Bill programs; development of management plans; and forested ecosystems and management techniques is preferred
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft applications including spreadsheets, internet and computer applications. GIS skills and experience preferred
  • Individual will be required to reside in California. While location is negotiable, a centralized location is preferred
