Description The Bilingual News Reporter will generate story ideas, gather information, and produce, shoot, edit and present stories and other content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, relevant and meaningful to English and Spanish language news consumers. Ensure all content meets News 12 Network standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
Develop sources, maintain contacts and pursue leads that result in original stories to present on-camera and on other platforms. Gather information, video content, interviews, and other elements necessary to produce high-quality news reports for all platforms, including social media, within deadlines. Present well-written fully-documented and creatively produced news stories and series. Contribute compelling story ideas on a regular basis. Store and maintain equipment including but not limited to cameras, tripods, ENG/SNG tools and equipment. Represent News 12 positively in the community in a courteous and professional manner. Substitute as anchor when assigned. Participate in promotional activities including public appearances. Respond to breaking news and other urgent newsroom situations as required. Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year of full-time professional news reporting experience. Must have the ability to shoot and edit video. Candidates must be fluent in both spoken and written English and Spanish. Effective on-air performance with good news judgment and knowledge of local and national current events and history, newsmakers, and issues. Creative story teller with effective news writing ability for all platforms, including social media. Must maintain professional on-camera appearance as defined by News 12 management. Knowledge of current and emerging news gathering and production technologies and techniques with the ability to develop engaging presentations. Must possess the ability to analyze news situations in order to provide information, insight, and perspective and think quickly and respond appropriately in high pressure situations. Knowledge of libel laws and ethical standards of journalism. Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record. Should be flexible to work any assigned shift including nights, weekends and holidays. Ability to work independently in a one-man band/backpack/multimedia environment. Understand and follow the process of creative photojournalism and editing. Ability to lift, carry and maneuver up to 45 lbs. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
