We are seeking an innovative technology executive to lead the Technology organization and direct the software product development/QA, SaaS hosting, and custom customer data integration functions of the Business Unit. Reporting to the General Manager of the business, he/she will partner with the other senior members of the business' executive team to define and deliver software products in the aggressively evolving areas within the Business Unit. Coordinate with Global Shared Services (GSS), all external vendors, and key internal business managers to ensure all internal & external systems are optimally servicing business needs and customers.
This individual will both understand the vision of the business unit as well as the overall organization and be able to articulate the role technology has in the achievement of that vision. The VP, Technology will be a member of the Client Technology Leadership Council.
Essential Duties
Work in deep collaboration with Product Management to create and execute on the technology, product, and market vision.
Lead the continuous education and point of view of the business on the future of relevant technology trends and ensure the strategic alignment between technology investments, market trends, and business goals.
The individual must be capable of both leading in the creation of product development and enhancements for core/existing revenue-generating best-in-class products while spearheading development in new, critical growth areas.
Grow the capability, capacity, and efficiency of the team by assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the organization; lead the hiring of additional key resources and the performance management and talent development of existing staff.
Balance the fast pace of delivering product releases in the competitive world of SaaS business software solutions and software enabled services with the need to articulate and deliver on high impact enterprise solutions.
Oversee the new development and consistent operation of all systems that support the internal and external constituencies of the Client business; security and system performance/capacity are paramount.
Serve as a liaison between customers and the internal technical organization.
Review, edit, and advise the business to ensure customer contracts accurately reflect the technical, operational, and security capabilities and limitations of the systems and adhere to Client technology policies and protocols.
Participate in the Sales function as necessary to drive financial results.
Serve as an active advocate of the internal and external constituencies in the smooth operation of all technology systems
Deliver regular timely executive-level reports regarding the technology function performance
Manage financials of IT investments and operations and actively participate in BDP, Budget, and expense management initiatives as warranted.
Develop and mentor a highly skilled development team and have a proven track record of leading an organization that has both in-house development staff as well as third party offshore and shared services partners. They will need to create positive, win-win relationships internal and external providers, customers, and other internal business functions.
Prepare and present information (presentations, reports, etc.) to peer managers, sister companies and senior executives regarding current and future technology trends and their impact on the business.
Continuous positive evolution of organizational engagement indices.
Continuous effort and results achieved around the talent management process, including demonstrating the maturation process of his/her leadership team.
Partnership with Global Shared Services Technology management to ensure smooth transition and ongoing performance of services (as needed) to protect the interests & business requirements of the Client business.Education
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar technical field.
Preferred: An advanced degree in a technical or business discipline (MBA, MS, etc.) is a strong preference.
Minimum Experience
Fifteen years or more of software development experience including the development of latest generation, B-to-B Software as a Software as a Service (SaaS) applications.
10-15 years' experience in increasingly responsible leadership roles, including 5 years in senior leadership positions such as head of software development (minimally at a Director” level).
Leading a team of technology professionals
Managing multiple projects/priorities simultaneously.
Executing plans on time budget and with quality. Providing solutions for the customer needs based on direct and indirect sources.
Building business relationships.
Creating executive-level content and detailed presentations.
Working collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization.Preferred Experience (includes Minimum)
Experience should show increasing responsibility and include cross-functional and cross-discipline acumen such as the ability to work collaboratively with both internal business sponsors and end customers.
Capable of being visionary and strategic, with strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to partner for business success. Communicates the potential of technology solutions and tradeoffs in a way that allows business leadership to make well-informed decisions. The VP, Technology will collaborate and help create product visions within a team framework.
Ability to balance between technology evangelism and pragmatic decision-making.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to tailor his or her message to all levels of the organization as well as key external customers.
Ideally, the candidate should have experience with buy/build assessments as part of the concept and analysis phases of new solution development.
Demonstrated ability to mentor project resources and drive execution results at all stages in the software development life cycle.
Demonstrated experience with Agile/SCRUM development methodology.
Exceptional people and leadership skills and a track record of continuously reinforcing collaborative processes and relationships. Experience managing personnel issues.
Strong listening skills.
Proven ability to inspire, recruit, motivate and lead in a growth environment, as well as the ability to be flexible and adaptive to business cultures across multiple subsidiaries.
Ability to learn and grow in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
The individual must have proven abilities to establish an intimate knowledge of the needs of the business and be able to communicate directly to the GMs around the IT value proposition and the way(s) in which his/her technology team will satisfy the business vision.
