Our bibliographic and reference databases, drug information software, point-of-care tools, web-based information systems and online continuing education products also support the delivery of health information via interactive formats.

Power brands of Wolters Kluwer Health, a Wolters Kluwer division, include traditional publishers of medical and drug reference tools and textbooks, such as Lippincott Williams & Wilkins and Facts & Comparisons® and electronic information providers, such as Ovid® and UpToDate®, Medi-Span® and ProVation® Medical.

We are looking for an Editorial Product Managerfor our Philadelphia, PA office.

The Editorial Product Manager is responsible for developing products through appropriate research and collaboration with Acquisitions Editor, Publisher, and Vice President that meet market demand and solve the needs of our customers. Also responsible for managing assigned products, ensuring that the products (and their components) deliver on-time, on-spec, on-scope, and on-budget. Success in this role also requires close collaboration with our authors, subject matter experts, and customers, as well as our Sales and Marketing departments.

The distinction between the Associate Editorial Product Manager and Editorial Product Manager positions is related to workload (i.e., the number of products assigned) and the criticality/complexity of the products (i.e., revenue generated, scope of products). The Editorial Product Manager will be responsible for carrying a higher volume workload and working on products with higher criticality/complexity.

The Editorial Product Manager manages all phases of the product development cycle for all assigned product deliverables, whether in print or electronic format or as a for-sale product or ancillary component. This position collaborates with the Acquisitions Editor and Marketing Manager in product planning and evaluation, and manages the creation of content (manuscript, software, art, videos, etc.) by authors, subject matter experts, contributors, vendors, in-house staff, or any combination thereof, and the delivery of final files to production.

This position's responsibilities are detailed below.

Product Planning And Evaluation

  • In preparation for publishing committee, collaborate with the Acquisitions Editor and Publisher to analyze proposals and proposal reviews in creation of market-driven product plan and revision story.
  • Collaborate to formulate proposal review survey and analyze results and provide direction to authors in order to develop a revision plan, including ancillary plan, that meets market needs and drives market share growth.
  • Collaborate with AE to determine what other questions and issues will need market input and best ways to obtain appropriate market feedback.
  • Communicate/interact with customers through surveys, focus groups, or other planned activities to understand their needs, pain points, learning environment, and market trends, and use this knowledge to help develop successful products that meet the needs of customers.
  • Through insight gained from customer interaction and feedback, assist Acquisitions Editor in understanding of market segments, including competitive landscape, market trends, electronic needs, customer demographics, etc.
  • Assess and make recommendations on product scope compared to competition and in light of market feedback.
  • Assess ability of proposed author team to execute project plan.
  • Work with the Acquisitions Editor/ Publisher and author team/subject matter expert/vendor/internal content team to define the deliverables and the scope of the product(s), including any ancillaries.
  • Create a project budget and schedule for all products/ancillaries for content creation (in all formats) in consultation with vendors and freelancers as appropriate.

  • Product Development

  • Manage market-driven development of product to meet customer needs and outperform the competition,
  • Work with EA to commission reviews and complete review analysis. Present review analysis and your recommendations to the author and work with them to address reviewer suggestions and meet market need.
  • Demonstrate deep development capabilities during process of analyzing authors presentation (e.g. coverage, organization, approach, pedagogy, illustrations) and writing style; provide direction to authors
  • Provide feedback and evaluation to the Acquisitions Editor and other members of the team on products readiness for market and viability for sales once published.
  • Manage the product's team and deliverables to ensure all deliverables are completed on-spec, on-time, on-scope, and on-budget.
  • Ensure timely delivery of manuscript/content and/or applications/platforms from author team/subject matter expert/vendor/internal content team.
  • Evaluate customer feedback and work with authors/internal team members to ensure product meets market needs and will be successful once published; review and refine the scope of a project throughout its life-cycle as needed.
  • Manage vendors, subject matter experts, and freelancers responsible for content creation, other media creation (such as video, audio files, etc.), and software development.
  • Review and prepare art manuscript, and work with Creative Services and author team to gather, develop, and finalize art program for delivery to production.
  • Assess design needs in light of target market as well as competition, and write design requests for interior and cover designs. In collaboration with team, review and provide feedback on design samples. Approve final design.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials (text, art, design specifications, etc.) and guidelines to production.
  • May review sample copyediting, sample proofs, first proofs, and alpha and beta versions of electronic products.
  • Track project status, schedule, and budget, and prepare reports for management.
  • Problem-solve any issues that may arise (such as schedule issues, quality/content issues, author/vendor/freelancer issues, budget/cost issues, length issues, and art issues).

  • Product Support

    The Editorial Product Manager serves as the product expert, interfacing with Acquisitions, Marketing, and Sales, and supporting their efforts to promote and sell the product. Specific responsibilities are detailed below. With all of these deliverables and tasks, the Editorial Product Manager will work with the Acquisitions Editor and Marketing Manager to ensure consistent messaging and positioning to the customer.

  • Provide back cover copy that appropriately addresses the audience and key product benefits and features.
  • Maintain product information database, which includes product specifications, markets, features, and benefits.
  • Create competitive grids detailing LWW product vs. competing products.
  • Serve as front-line internal support for the product after the product is published/live. Specific responsibilities include updating competitive grids as appropriate based on new and revised competitive publications, fielding product inquiries from technical/customer support, and managing reprint corrections and versioning/bug fixes for electronic products.

    Minimum Requirements

  • College degree (BA/BS) required
  • Five years of editorial publishing experience required, preferably in a book environment.
