We are currently looking for an ICD Animal Health Technician II for the National Institute of Mental Health in buildings 10, 35, and 49 under the direction of the NIMH Institute Veterinarians. Candidate shall be certified or able to be certified at the AALAS LATG level or have an LVT. Will be required to obtain a LATG certification within 1-4 years, depending on experience, if not certified.
Must have a minimum of three years experience in laboratory animal facilities or as a companion animal veterinary technician. Applicant shall have experience working with a variety of animal species, to include routine veterinary companion animals (dogs, cats, exotics); experience with rodents and non-human primate experience is highly desired, but not required. Candidate should have experience with animal husbandry/caretaking procedures, accurate data sample collection, accurate and timely record keeping, and data processing. Must be able to lift 40lbs to 60lbs, climb, stoop, bend, reach, and stand for prolonged periods. Must be responsible and reliable to work independently when necessary and maintain good customer and team relationships. Must be available to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
Must have a working knowledge of veterinary medicine and technology (first aid response, pharmacy and pharmacology, physiology, physical examination, and treatment under the direction of a veterinarian) with various animal species. The candidate must have technical experience and competency in anesthesia and surgical support (to include IV and endotracheal placement), anesthesia monitoring (automated anesthetic respirator ventilation experience highly desirable, but not required), surgical (sterile prep and surgical scrub) preparation and surgical assistance. The ideal candidate will have experience in nursing, laboratory procedures (complete blood count, serum chemistry, urinalysis), dental prophylaxis equipment, and diagnostic equipment, such as pulse oximetry, electrocardiography, radiology, endoscopy, and ultrasound. Candidate will take all technical direction from the NIMH investigative staff.
Formal education shall include a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Demonstrated math and reading comprehension and good English oral and written communication skills are required. Demonstrated working knowledge of computers and associated software (Microsoft Word and Excel) is required. Applicant must possess a valid U.S. drivers license. Salary is commensurate with experience and certification level.
Requirements
A clear background check must be obtainable in order to be considered for any position with Priority One Services. All candidates applying for an animal-related position must have the ability to work with and around animals, and/or the ability to control any animal allergies with medication. If medication is needed, Priority One Services will require a physicians note indicating that you are able to perform essential job functions, which may include working with and around animals safely. The ability to lift 50 pounds and the disclosure of household pets may be required for certain positions. The ability to successfully complete and pass contract specific required medical physicals and testing. Employment candidates will not be considered employees' of the company until all medical and physical demand requirements of specific contracts are returned with medical clearances and successful passing of all test results are returned and reviewed. Physical demands include, but are not limited to; stooping climbing, reaching, standing for prolonged periods, pushing carts that could be more than 30 Lbs, lifting. All candidates must have the ability to read, speak and understand English.
