Position Summary

Reporting to the Speciality Gas Program Manager of the Strategic Engineering Dept., the instrumentation and Controls Engineer designs, specifics, installs, and commissions PLC/SCADA based control systems for Matheson Tri-Gas'' new and existing specialty gas manufacturing operations. Troubleshoots/reprograms/modifies existing systems. Based at out LaPorte, TX branch facility.
Work design: Works under general supervision Work is spot-checked. Resolves non-routine problems by applying general policies, practices, procedures and principles. Performs in-depth analyses of standard problems.

Position Accountabilities

  • Supervise mechanical and electrical contractors during construction and installation of process control systems. This includes control room layout and design, electrical and I/O panel layout and design, subcontractor site inspections of equipment being fabricated as well as filed installation, verification, troubleshooting, commissioning and start up.
  • Indirect responsibility for staff assigned to project teams.
  • Responsible for the design and specification of instrumentation and control systems for production process, including development of system requirements, equipment specifications, functional specifications, and P & ID''s.
  • Responsible for defining, reviewing and approving control system scope, designs, schedule and budget for large scale projects contracted to the outside engineering firms.
  • Provide controls and instrumentation engineering support to existing plant processes.
  • Travel of up to 35 percent may be required.

  • Required Skills

    Excellent communication skills required.

    Required Experience

    B.S. in Chemical or Electrical Engineering, with 5 years minimum controls engineering experience in the chemical process industries. Ability to fully define and specify process instrumentation and process control systems. Includes scope, schedule and bu
