Based in San Francisco, CA, we are a software company in the e-learning space and we are looking to hire a Lead Ruby on Rails Engineer for 100% remote full time work. We build tools and products used by many Fortune 100 companies. This Lead Rails Engineer would report directly to our CTO. This role is a lead in title because we seek somebody who prefers to be hands-on. That stated, this role will have the capacity to function as a Head of Engineering: designing and building our products, managing teams, holding people accountable, high visibility throughout our organization. The ideal candidate must be passionate about building sites/systems, follow DHH religiously, have a strong sense of leadership, and comfortable working in a virtual environment since this role is a 100% remote/work from home full time position.

Our team now consists of world class engineers from all walks of life. The Lead Rails Engineer will be responsible for growing and developing our existing team of engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a product team of 3-5 developers
  • Being part of an Agile team implementing bests practices like TDD to write stable, beautiful code
  • The autonomy to decide on the best tech needed to get the job done
  • Mentor developers and drive technical innovation

  • Skill Requirements

  • 3+5 years experience leading/managing software development teams
  • Proven record of building and shipping web products & services.
  • Experience leading agile development teams. Bonus points for pair programming and TDD experience.
  • Expertise with JavaScript on down to the Server. Node.js, Backbone.js, etc.
  • 4+ years developing in Ruby on Rails. Serious Ruby skills.
  • High comfort level with Git & Github.
  • Commitment to quality.
  • Passion for building awesome, useful software.
  • High bandwidth personality and ability to work unmonitored (from home).
  • Active involvement in the open source community.
