Kohler is currently recruiting for Industrial Designer Interns to work within the Kitchen and Bath Americas, New Product Development area. As an Industrial Design Intern you will have an opportunity to help create innovative concepts, products, services, experience and human interfaces through the design process while recognizing the influences from manufacturing, marketing, engineering, cost and timing. In this role you will participate as a member of the Industrial Design staff in the research, concept development and design of products for the kitchen and bath in one of the following: Bathing, Sanitary, Kitchen or Faucets. In addition, you will actively participate in problem-solving exercises with the Industrial Design staff and/or project teams in a collaborative environment. Concept development through sketching, CAID and construction of mockups will be part of your day as well as assisting designers with model making. Design review is an important process at Kohler and you will be involved with presentation preparation including mounting of drawings/renderings, construction of presentation stands and other prep work as assigned. Design interns will report directly to Lead Industrial Designers or other Industrial Designers as project(s) require.
Ideal intern candidates will be working towards a four year industrial design degree with a preference given to students that have an emphasis in product design. Prior coursework in graphic design along with relevant work experience including co-ops in a related field is preferred.
Our interns work with us starting January (2013) through December (2013). Specific timeframes are anywhere from three to six months. For exceptional candidates we are willing to be flexible on the timeframe of the internship. Our interns are located in Kohler, WI. We will help get you here by offering a competitive hourly wage, monthly stipend and if your college is more than 50 miles away we will provide some monetary assistance for relocation. While you are working with us you will meet other interns, work collaboratively with engineering and marketing and have plenty of opportunities to network with executive level people offering an abundance of exposure within Kohler. We coordinate off campus activities throughout the summer as well as on campus lunch and learn forums to provide professional development.
