As part of the Emerging Business team, this role will orchestrate and execute the development and commercialization of new business opportunities for Solazyme which includes strategic deployment of its core technology to create unique and valuable products for target markets and entry into new markets
Primary Job Responsibilities
The Sr. Director of Business Development will be responsible for leading commercialization efforts for the Emerging Business Group. This is an exceptional opportunity for high performance professionals with proven ability to source, negotiate and close deals that will shape the future of the company. Working within cross functional teams an our stage gate process, the Sr. Director of Business Development will develop and execute market focused strategies to accelerate the growth of our business.
Lead partner development activities, including: identifying and establishing relationships with potential partners, developing proposals for Joint Development and Off-take agreements, provide customer feedback on product concepts and close targeted deals.
Initiate and develop customer proposals and presentation materials including development of compelling business cases, value propositions and supporting financial models.
Provide commercial leadership and direction for the business by establishing priorities, assigning and monitoring work tasks, and ensuring accountability and follow through.
Manage relationships with key partners including leading participation in key industry events and conferences. Play a leading role in establishing Solazyme as the leader in the renewable tailored oil space industry in targeted markets.
Manage external consultants hired as necessary to support Business Development team.
Requirements
B.S. or higher degree in a technical field, preferably Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or Biochemical Engineering; advanced degree a plus
MBA preferred, or equivalent experience.
12 - 20 years of relevant and applicable work experience in consumer product companies or suppliers to consumer product companies, which would include demonstrated experience in deal generation, business and client development and negotiating terms.
Must have an established track record of closing significant deals in the food ingredients, nutrition, personal care or related areas.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize amongst multiple commitments, and to drive multiple high profile and complex projects simultaneously.
Proven leadership skills and the capability to manage/lead highly matrixed, cross-functional project teams.
Strong modeling skills including understanding of accounting and financial analysis concepts, and valuation techniques.
Strategic thinker with strong execution skills who show initiative and can self-manage.
Exemplary communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels.
Collaborative team player comfortable leading as well as executing, and taking input from multiple sources.
Proven global experience leading major expansion projects including acquisitions, joint ventures and licensing agreements.
Up to 40% travel anticipated.
