As part of the Mechanical Product Development (MPD) team within the flagship Home Entertainment division, your work is visible, rewarding and innovative.

Why are problem solving skills so important? Because this role is part of the Continuing Engineering team within MPD. Some companies refer to it as Sustaining Engineering or Continuation Engineering, but not matter what you call it, to do it well you need to be a Mechanical Engineering 'problem fixer'.

About

We find out about problems that need your attention, in a number of ways. They include:

Feature enhancement for existing product

Design problems discovered in manufacturing

Design problems discovered in the field after products are in our customer's hands

Re-designs necessitated by changing compliance standards for energy use, safety, etc.

Mechanical Engineers work with interdisciplinary development teams. They take an active role in re-designing products to endure they continue to provide truly astounding audio, drawing on deep knowledge in areas such as plastics, metals, cooling, form factor, aesthetics, and reliability. You will also use your rich technical knowledge, your deep understanding of materials, your extensive experience in product development (audio product experience is helpful but not required), and your critical analysis skills to solve any problems that come up on our existing products. You are the last line of defense to ensure that important problems get fixed, allowing Home Entertainment Division products to continue delivering outstanding performance and value which wows and delights our customers.
Skills We would like at least 5 years in a product development environment. More important is the ability to identify and solve problems throughout the course of a product development.

6+ Years Experience In The Mechanical Design And Development Of High Volume Consumer Products; Must Have An Understanding Of The Design Rules For

6+ years experience in the mechanical design and development of high volume consumer products; Must have an understanding of the design rules for

Plastic injection molding
Metal forming
DFM/A

Proficiency in use of solids modeling MCAD system (preferably NX) is required.
Must have ability to apply creativity, sound engineering principles, and hands-on execution to effectively solve problems;
The ability to construct or modify hardware parts or models with some proficiency in the use of simple hand tools also valuable.
Knowledge of high volume, consumer electronics product development is preferred but not a hard requirement
Experience with the design of products for EMI, UL, FCC or CSA compliance is preferred but not a hard requirement
BSME required, preferably from tops schools such as MIT, CMU, RPI, WPI, GIT etc
Education Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline gained through a formal four-to-five year college program. Master's degree desirable.
