Job Details

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Grounds Supervisor. The Groundskeeper's primary job function is to maintain hospital grounds in an attractive and orderly condition by trimming lawns, planting trees, and removing snow, and other related tasks. Adjusts and makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment including lawn mowers, sprinklers, shears, and the like using small hand tools. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education
    GED/High School Diploma required
  • Licensure
    BLS Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment Ohio Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification within 30 days of hire required Fork Truck and BobCat Safety Training within one year of hire required.
  • Experience
    Approximately one to three months on-the-job experience necessary to learn landscaping and gardening techniques, safe operation of motorized snow removal and lawn equipment, and to perform routine maintenance on same.
  • Interpersonal Skills
    Moderate level of communication skill to interact with patients, coworkers, and outside professionals.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills
    Knowledgeable and skilled use of all equipment used in pertinent areas.
  • Essential Physical Requirements
    Stands and/or walks for a majority of work time with regular breaks when installing repairing or performing PM's on mechanical equipment. Has ability to use hands for repetitive simple grasping and fine manipulation when using hand tools. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching above shoulder level. May lift up to 50 pounds when carrying shrubs and equipment.
  • Essential Mental Requirements
    Analytical skills necessary in order to collect samples such as soil and leaves for testing, determine lawn care schedules, and monitor hospital grounds for safety hazards.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements
    Good vision is required while maintaining hospital grounds.
  • Exposure to Hazards
    May have contact with hazardous waste such as frequent exposure to greases and cleaners, toxic chemicals, sprays, etc. Possible injury when climbing ladders or scaffolds.
