  • POSITION SUMMARY:Midlevel providers practice medicine under the supervision of the psychiatrist, to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services, as delegated by a physician. (1) Develops comprehensive plans of care. (2) Examines patients to obtain information about their psychiatric and physical condition. (3) Instructs and counsels patients to obtain prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance. (4) Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal. (5) Makes tentative psychiatric and medical diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of consumers. (6) Obtains, complies and records patient psychiatric and medical data. (7) If needed in rare occasions performs therapeutic procedures such as injections ad would care. (8) Prescribes therapy or medication with psychiatric supervision.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:Minimum Required: Bachelors Degree and degree from acceptable Type A Physician Assistant Program recognized by the Board of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, or from a program otherwise designated for Physician Assistants which has been approved by the NC Board of Medical Examiners or the AMA. Must be registered with the NC Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant. OR Registered Nurse who has successfully completed a graduate nursing education program, with board certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Current and valid NC license to practice as a registered nurse, with NC Board of Nursing and NC Medical Board approval to use the title Nurse Practitioner. Both PA and NP: Must obtain and maintain a valid DEA number from the Drug Enforcement Agency. Must complete 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years approved by relevant credentialing bodies, of which 3 hours must be the study of medical and social effects of substance abuse, including abuse of prescription drugs, controlled substances and illicit drugs. BCLS and ACLS certification. At least one year of PA/NP experience in an acute care setting.
Preferred:Same as above, or if a NP, above plus MSN degree.
