Position Responsibilities

This position will be reporting under the Network Operations Center and will be an escalation for first level support. The primary focus of the position will be to troubleshoot and support Cloud Solutions hosted and remote customer issues. The iSeries Systems administrator will work in a team environment and be responsible for administration of iSeries systems that are comprised of multiple LPARS across data centers in multiple physical locations. Responsibilities include file system administration, backup and recovery, performance analysis and tuning, availability administration, application administration, product installations and application upgrades, security administration, customer communications, and end-user assistance.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze system and application performance data, tune system accordingly.
  • Proactive system monitoring and maintenance.
  • Diagnose and manage problems; perform root cause analysis.
  • Provide support to customer technical staff and customer end-users.
  • Provide frontline support via phone, email and ticketing system.
  • All duties are performed in conjunction with direct support of Cloud Solutions customers, so excellent customer service phone skills are a must.
  • Applicant must be able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends as needed.
  • Responsible for other special projects as assigned.

  • Position Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years in AS/400, iSeries System Administration. Not inclusive of programming experience.
  • IBM System i, iSeries or AS/400 hardware and operating system expertise (V5R4,V6R1, and V7R1).
  • LPAR/HMC/multiple machines experience required.
  • Knowledge of basic CL programming.
  • Familiarity with iSeries replication tools such as MAX Ava, Vision, iTerea.
  • Knowledge of IBM's BRMS and tape operations.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot object level security.
  • Experience with subsystem and job management.
  • Experience with supporting applications running on the iSeries.
  • Familiarity with system monitoring software such as Halycon, iDoctor, CA.
  • Proficiency with iSeries Access and iSeries Navigator including SSL configuration.
  • Ability to create SSL Certificates within DCM.
  • Ability to document, communicate, and adhere to policies and standards for systems as deemed necessary.
  • iSeries/System Performance Tuning expertise.
  • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN.
  • TCP/IP configuration, troubleshooting and implementation a must.
  • Auditing and journal maintenance experience.
  • Interact professionally with internal and external contacts with various levels of technical expertise to obtain, analyze, and discuss business processes and solutions.
  • Must plan, organize, prioritize, schedule, coordinate, and manage projects and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office for daily administrative tasks.
  • Ability to adapt and self-educate on new technologies to provide assistance and/or recommendations regarding its usage.
  • Experience with the following software desired: Datagate, Halcyon, Jacada, NaviLine, Acom, FormsPrint, RVI, OptiSpool, Cognos.
  • Associates Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with 3+ years experience, or
    equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain System Administrator Certification.
  • 3+ years experience in an IT operations setting.
  • 2+ years System Administration experience.
  • 2+ years of computer systems hardware installation and configuration experience.
  • Customer support experience.
  • Experience in the Public Sector industry is a plus
  • Experience with HTE/SunGard Public Sector applications such as NaviLine, Click2Gov and DMS is preferred.
  • Experience with Windows Operating Systems preferred (Windows XP, 7, Server 2003, Server 2008

  • Other Skills And Abilities

    Knowledge of the operating characteristics and capabilities of System i operating system and other various OS and application software. Knowledge of system analysis, design procedures, and operational practices for network applications. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions, and to present oral and written reports clearly and concisely. Ability to establish effective working relationships with customers, fellow employees, supervisors, and representatives of other departments. Ability to analyze the needs of users. Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously. Ability to work with hardware and software vendors on technical issues or projects. Ability to work independently, lead, plan and implement projects.
