  • Answer employee questions pertaining to benefits, firm policies, and DC office specific procedures. Conduct all new hire orientation for DC employees. Monitor and track new hire paperwork. Submit all new hire paperwork to the New York Office. Work with the training department in New York to coordinate training schedules for all new hires. Coordinate with the Legal Recruiting department regarding the Summer Associate program, Paralegal program, and Fall Associate Program.
  • Work with the Office Administrator on employee relations matters. Maintain a very high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive employee relations matters. Advise the Office Administrator on the best way to approach employee relations matters. Consult the HR Director in New York regarding sensitive matters and the best way to approach them. Develop strategies for non-legal staff. Work on the secretarial program with the Office Administrator. Assist in organizing secretarial quarterly meetings.
  • Monitor and track non-legal staff time and attendance daily. Record all time off for non legal staff and submit to the New York office each week. Track paid time off for each non legal employee and update employee absentee calendars. Record and verify overtime for all non-exempt employees. Answer questions for all employees regarding vacation, sick, and personal leave time.
  • Help recruit and staff non-legal positions. Write job descriptions and post vacancies with DC Networks. Follow the new hire process and submit all applicable request for hire information to the HR Director. Send pre-hire background check information to New York for processing. Establish relationships with staffing companies and work with them to select applicable candidates. Interview candidates and conduct reference checks.
  • Assist in the employee review process for non-legal staff. Coordinate the sending out and receiving of all employee reviews. Discuss the review process with the DC Office Administrator and the HR Director in New York. This requires a very high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive employee information.
  • Assist with the annual open enrollment process. Answer employee questions regarding any changes in benefits. Work with the HR Director in New York to help facilitate the open enrollment process in DC. Forward open enrollment benefit paperwork to the New York office and keep records for the DC office.
  • Administer FMLA and Short Term Disability paperwork for employees who need to go out on leave. Coordinate with the HR Director in New York regarding an employees FMLA and Short Term Disability paperwork. Explain the leave process to employees.

  • Requirements

    Bachelors Degree in a related field
    4 years experience in a law firm
    Maintain confidentiality on all HR matters. Ability to handle multiple projects at one time. Remain calm under pressure and in tense circumstances. Ability to interact and build relationships with all levels of employees.
