Position Focus: The Papers of Benjamin Franklin seeks a full-time historical editor to work closely with a small team of colleagues to prepare the last six volumes of the edition, covering the end of Franklin's mission to France and his final years in Philadelphia (1784 through 1790). Duties will include research, writing annotation, checking annotation for accuracy and completeness, proofreading texts against handwritten manuscripts, and may include analytical indexing.

Principal Responsibilities 1. Verifies citations, proofreads texts, and recommends modifications or changes to documents, as needed.
Required Education and Experience Master's Degree in English or literature appropriate to the collection and three years of experience editing and researching scholarly materials for publication or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1: Demonstrated experience with late 18th-century political, intellectual or social history.
Required Skill/Ability 2: Proven ability to edit and research scholarly materials for publication.
Required Skill/Ability 3: Meticulous attention to detail.
Required Skill/Ability 4: Demonstrated ability to read and transcribe 18th-century handwriting.
Required Skill/Ability 5: Ability to work as a member of a team frequently under deadlines.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: PhD or equivalent; knowledge of early American history; reading knowledge of French.
