Job Description

Protective Life Corporation currently has an opening for a Senior Auditor at our Birmingham, AL corporate Headquarters. The Staff Auditor will work with the Audit Team to provide independent assurance to the Protective Board and management of the effectiveness of risk management and internal controls over all of the Company’s activities. This position will perform responsibilities as an internal controls expert in the Audit Department.

Responsibilities


Participate in and/or lead audits to identify and evaluate key risks and related controls.

Verify or review audit evidence, prepare audit plans, workpapers, findings, status reports and audit report.

Identify and analyze complex issues, problems and improvement opportunities and develop conclusions and recommendations.

Communicate audit results to Audit supervision and senior management and client area management.

Perform or lead follow-up reviews to ensure that appropriate corrective actions have been implemented by client management.

Analyze and document internal control risks and processes; research and recommend internal control strategy and best practices.

Performs other duties assigned.

Requirements


3-10 years of progressive risk-focused Internal Audit experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics or other business related field required.

An Advanced degree in business is a plus.

  • Professional Certification, CPA, CIA, is required.

Experience assessing the adequacy of internal control environments through the identification of inherent risks in the business and key controls designed to mitigate those risks

Demonstrated strong analytical skills, including ability to analyze business and financial activities, understand and describe process flows, strengths and weaknesses, and develop creative solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Excellent verbal and written communication; time and project management; analytical and organizational skills required.

Must be detail oriented and have the ability to see whole systems in order to act strategically.

Must be self-motivated, reliable, accountable and team oriented.

Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office suite is required.

Some overnight travel is required (10-15%)
