The systems analyst will engage with all departments within the organization to understand both business process and system design in context of the end use applications of the system and provide optimization models on (a) systems configuration and (b) user training. This position will provide guidance concerning project specifications, software development, and troubleshooting techniques. In addition, this role will be a key contributor in the development of technical training and materials.
Requirements
The system analyst role in the development cycle is to take high level requirements and process them, to provide technical specification that can be used by the development team. The system analyst is provided with high-level requirements either directly by the end users or by project / product manager. Once provided with the high level requirements, he/she is responsible then to take the following steps:
The system analyst will act as the single point of contact with the development team and all other groups within the organization. The system analyst will need to be familiar with a variety of programming languages, operating systems, and computer hardware platforms and will be responsible to write user requests into technical specifications.
Skills Required
Plan a system flow from the ground up.
Interact with customers to learn and document requirements that are then used to produce technical requirements documents.
Write technical requirements from a critical phase.
Interact with designers to understand software limitations.
Help programmers during system development, ex: provide use cases, flowcharts or even Database design.
Perform system testing.
Document requirements or contribute to user manuals.
Whenever a development process is conducted, the system analyst is responsible for designing components and providing that information to the developer.
Candidate Requirements
Bachelors Degree in a Computer Science or related technical discipline
8-10 yrs of successful delivery of system analysis including defining functional requirements, functional specifications for technical components, as well as preparing activity, sequence and data flow diagrams
Demonstrated history of strong communication and collaboration abilities in a highly matrixed environment
Strong Planning abilities - demonstrated history of setting milestone dates for a group of project tasks and ensuring their completion.
Strong distributed systems analysis capabilities
Focused on requirements analysis, down to a complete and valid Use Case
Ability to produce clear and consistent requirement docs and specs, which combines literal descriptions, use cases charts, UI sketches and other means
Specific experience with web applications and client-server systems (a plus)
