Provide strategic planning for the DBA group, perform application database construction and design, and provide database administration expertise in managing the general availability of database management systems to the production application environment, through highly-complex tuning and database support. Maintain data integrity outside the control of an application and govern security access to sensitive data, along with coordinating that access with the responsible parties within the organization.

ettain group has an immediate contract to hire opeing for a DB2 UDB Database Administrator in the retail industry in Jacksonville, FL.

Essential Job Functions

  • Act as a team leader in driving technology decisions, devising solutions to complex database problems, and in overall technology planning.
  • Performance tunes both LUW and underlying database components including, but not limited to: disk configuration, access paths, I/O bound analysis, and network contention issues related to data transfer.
  • Perform data modeling, designs and implement physical databases.
  • Communicates regularly with internal technical, applications, and operational staff as appropriate, in order to ensure the database integrity, security, and availability.
  • Provide database capacity analysis, predicting growth trends and forecasting ancillary needs such as disk and backup space allocations along with hardware upgrades where necessary.
  • Implement databases clustered either for performance or failover.
  • Aid development staff in working with other database administrators and lends expertise to external groups building applications.
  • Confer directly with application vendor specialists on procedures specific to the application at hand, and then implements best practices in order to aid vendors in support of their application.
  • Participate in staff rotations of on-call responsibilities.

  • Secondary Job Functions

  • Reconcile competing database technologies to help determine the best fit for the Enterprise.
  • Participate in the RFP process, aiding the business side of the company with vendor selection.
  • Maintain data warehouse, data mart, or DSS database implementations.
  • Participate in the Business Recovery plan.
  • Aid development, vendor, or production with data access tuning in N-tier architectures, including application server platforms such as WebLogic or WebSphere.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Six (6) or more years of database administration experience or related experience.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following databases: LUW, DB2, UDB (LUW a must)
  • Proficient in writing and understanding LUW
  • Experience with Unix and/or Windows.
