Under general direction, plans, conducts, and supervises engineering projects with significant magnitude and scope usually involving integration among diverse systems. Works independently to meet customer needs through creative application of engineering principles.

Principal Duties

  • Creates and develops information product and or system concepts or operating processes to fulfill business needs. Oversees major projects or systems within time and budgetary constraints. Develops, designs, plans, and implements, processes, systems and procedures utilizing standard engineering or technology principles to complete assignments. Takes initiative to recommend projects, systems, or operational processes.
  • Identifies, investigates, and recommends improvements in products, systems, or processes to improve the application or operation. Directs projects having significant impact on business operations.
  • Conducts engineering or systems analysis and experimentation to analyze application or operational feasibility and explore alternatives. Tests the integration of equipment and systems to ensure compatibility. Develops working prototypes or detailed plans and outlines and tests for compliance with needs.
  • Ensures the effective utilization or resources; human, material, and facility. Plans and schedules projects, tests, and change to optimize utilization while meeting established time schedules and budgets.
  • Perform tradeoff between implementation, schedule and cost and resource constraints, and recommend alternatives. Provide technical feedback, inputs and consultation to other organizations involved in system design or implementation activities. Participate in technology transfer initiatives among IT departments, R&D, and Product Engineering. May work as a staff expert on teams that develop engineering practice and information technology architecture.
  • Provides work direction to a project team including less experienced engineers and technicians. Makes work assignments, checks results, and provides instruction and training the application of sound engineering design.
  • Prepares product documentation, operating instructions, and reviews related technical literature.
  • Performs related duties as is necessary.
