The Engineering Manager will work on the Commercial team that is part of the Unitary Products Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. In this division we manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. Johnson Controls has two plants for UPG with approximately 1000 employees each; one in Norman, OK and the other in Wichita, KS. This position will be located in our Norman, OK plant and will report to the Vice President of Engineering.

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing and leading engineers or engineering team trusted with achieving UPG product cost optimization plan. This role will manage small-medium product development, product modifications and specification changes.

The Engineering Manager Will Be Responsible For The Following Duties


  • Leads team activities to achieve UPG product cost optimization plan by modifying existing designs, new product introductions and improving production techniques.
  • Prioritizes team projects. Identifies project resource requirements.
  • Masters standard principles, methods and procedures and working knowledge of advanced/specialized principles, methods and procedures for immediate projects.
  • Evaluates engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness of proposed changes.
  • Forecasts team operating expenses; prepares and manages expense budget to plan.
  • Understands the UPG organization. Interacts with other departments to ensure project execution.
  • Obtains knowledge of industry trends, relevant legislation and agency requirements.

  • The Qualified Applicant Will Possess The Following

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field in Applied Sciences required.
  • Minimum seven (7) years engineering design experience required.
  • Experience in the HVAC industry with demonstrated unitary product design skills is required.
  • PC proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Developed interpersonal skills will be required to interact well with peers and supervisory staff.
  • Strong self-motivation and integrity level to be a ‘lead by example' manager
  • Ability to collaborate cross functionally with other teams, departments and leadership
