Our Quantum Information Processing group is developing complete, vertically integrated, next generation communication, sensing, and computation systems, from the physical layer to applications, using new quantum, superconducting, and optical technologies. Our scientists are an interdisciplinary team of physicists, mathematicians, information theorists, and systems engineers with expertise in superconducting quantum circuits, quantum memory physics, quantum and classical information theory, and classical optical networking. Through our research,
we hope to fundamentally change information processing and transmission, enabling new applications and solutions to challenging problems.
Raytheon BBN Technologies' Quantum Information Processing Business Unit, located in Cambridge, MA, is seeking a qualified theorist with a strong background in quantum optics and familiarity with information theory. The ideal candidate would be mathematically mature and have a good working knowledge of quantum optical mode propagation, and quantum-limited optical measurements. Some familiarity of quantum and classical information theory, stochastic processes, estimation theory, and digital communications will be a plus. The candidate will join a highly entrepreneurial group of researchers advancing optical communications, imaging, and computing technologies by pursuing an in-depth study of the fundamental limits on the information and processing capability of light and matter. The candidate will work with experts in quantum information theory in leading efforts to develop structured means to exploit the quantum nature of light to boost the performance of optical information processing systems, and will also provide strong theory support to diverse new and existing efforts spanning atomic, superconducting and optical phenomena. Position responsibilities will include developing novel theoretical understanding of quantum optical systems, as well as working closely with experimentalists to perform modeling and simulation of advanced concepts in a system environment.
PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics or related field
2-4 years experience in classical and quantum information theory and optics
US citizenship is preferred with the ability to obtain a US government security clearance. Active security clearance is highly desirable.
