Job Description
MedImmunecurrently has an opening for a Senior Pathologist / Principal Pathologist. This person will have a highly visible leadership and scientific advisory role in theMedImmune Pathology Group, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA. The Pathology Group is within Biologics Safety Assessment (BSA), which also includes Toxicology and Laboratory Animal Resources. BSA is part of the Translational Sciences (TS) Department within Research. The Senior/Principal Pathologist will report to the Head Pathologist. Investigative activities of the Pathology Group include participation in many aspects of drug development, including target identification and validation, animal model development, efficacy study tissue evaluation, immunohistochemical-based assays including tissue-cross-reactivity, cell-based assays, preclinical and clinical-trial biomarker development, and interpretation of TS-related results from clinical trials.
Toxicology and investigative study involvement consists of protocol reviews, original tissue evaluations, and pathology peer reviews, for studies conducted at Contract Research Organizations and within the Pathology Group.

Position
Knowledge: The candidate should have in-depth understanding and multiple years of experience with a wide application of technical principles, theories, and current concepts in investigative and toxicologic pathology. General knowledge of other related disciplines such as toxicology and laboratory animal medicine is also required.
The Senior Pathologist / Principal Pathologist will be recognized by the greater pharmaceutical and pathology arenas as a leader in his/her area of specialization (investigational, IHC, toxicologic pathology) via book chapter authorship, published, peer reviewed, research or position papers, and/or editorship of recognized journals in pathology. Invited speaker to national/international meetings is also considered a form of recognition by the greater pathology world. Significant experience in image analysis would be considered an advantage.
Experience
Senior Pathologist / Principal Pathologist will have the depth of knowledge from 5 to 15 years of experience in conducting investigative and/or toxicology studies with minimal scientific/technical support from other pathologists.
Education
A D.V.M. degree from an accredited veterinary/ school and certification in pathology by a world-recognized examination board. A Ph.D. or investigative pathology experience is highly desirable.
