Our Parks and Destinations group specializes in serving consumers; recreational and entertainment needs in national and state parks, zoos, aquariums, science centers, museums and other day-use cultural attractions.

Position Summary

Performs apprentice or journeyman level work in repair, service and maintenance of buses and related vehicular equipment. WORK TO BE PERFORMED WITH SUPERVISION BY LEAD LEVEL 1 MECHANIC.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, and engine defects in school buses and other automotive equipment.
  • Overhauls, repairs, rebuilds or replaces differentials, brake systems and other major components under supervision.
  • Rebuilds engines and transmissions by repair or replacement within capabilities under supervision.
  • Repairs alternators and other electrical components utilizing testing devices and machine equipment as required.
  • Performs general tune-ups on all related vehicular equipment under supervision.
  • Make minor roadside repairs as required or conveys information to shop foreman.
  • Repairs and replaces seats, glass, sheet metal, latches and other body components and assemblies.
  • Assists or repairs, fill and paint, within capabilities, damaged body components.
  • Changes oil and filters, installs anti-freeze and snow chains, adjusts brakes, lubricates chassis, wheel bearings and other assemblies, including washing and cleaning of all engines and major components.
  • Performs all required preventive maintenance and regular bus safety inspections.
  • Cleans and organizes shop and other maintenance facilities.
  • Operates battery charger, compression gauges, torque wrenches, welding equipment within capabilities, grinders, timing lights, hoists, jacks, porta-power, pump, compressors, drilling presses, air wrenches and other tools, equipment and machines required for repair and maintenance of motor vehicles.
  • May perform tire repair and related service.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Employee is responsible for general knowledge of corporate environmental policies and procedures and how they relate to their job functions. Corporate policies and procedures are posted on bulletin boards or can be accessed at dpr.web.
  • Employee is responsible for knowing the environmental aspects and associated impacts of their job position. Job specific environmental aspects and impacts will be communicated by Dept. Managers during EMS training.
  • Environmental objectives and targets will be communicated by dept. managers for each dept. during EMS training.
  • Employee will have no less than 1 performance review per season to include an evaluation of performance standards as they relate to work instructions addressing their departments environmental aspects. Employee will be aware of environmental objectives and targets within their department and how the objectives and targets effect their job performance.

Bus Maintenance Shop Foreman or Lead Mechanic

Education And Experience

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Two to four years experience in a heavy-duty truck or bus shop facility.
Allowable Substitutions

  • Alternative combinations or technical training and work experience will be evaluated by the HR Dept. for comparability.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience with automotive equipment
  • Ability to perform minor preventive maintenance either alone or under direct supervision.
  • Ability to help troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Ability to operate various tools and equipment as required.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Knowledge and experience with maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements.
  • Ability to make repairs as needed.
  • Ability to assist in replacing major assemblies and components under direct supervision.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Licenses/Special Requirements.
  • Valid Drivers License. May have an Intermediate or Combination endorsement (Commercial Drivers License required.)
  • Possess a set of basic automotive mechanic hand tools and storage cabinet.
  • Must meet DOT Inspector Qualification Criteria.
Must meet DOT Qualification for Brake Inspector.
