Business Context

Responsibility for strategic leadership of Brand Initiatives globally for Select Service & Extended Stay brands. Will work closely with the Product Development Leader and Continent Project Leaders to achieve their department’s mission and ensure appropriate knowledge sharing.

Job Summary

To contribute to Brand Initiatives, Design standards and concepts for Marriott brands as they relate to Interior Design of new construction, conversions and acquisitions, and renovations of existing properties.

Manage and lead the design team to superior performance.

Manage internal and external customer expectations and relationships.

Deliver expectation in terms of Marriott products and standards.

Expected Contributions

Support the needs of the SVP of Select Service & Extended Stay brands for the brand organization

Builds strong relationships with operations (OFS), ISI, Brand Development and continental A&C to build an open collaborative environment and fluid exchange of ideas.

Working with the A&C VP of Product Development, define design concepts for brand initiatives working with Brand, ISI and Operations.

Provide design input to design standards to the VP of Product Development with regards to market and cultural suitability and operational practicality of design solutions.

Communicate overall brand direction changes to A&C continental design staff responsible for successful implementation of Marriott and Select Service & Extended Stay design standards.

Collect project feedback from continental A&C staff, operations and development for incorporation into existing standards or future brand initiatives.

Communicate with the Senior Vice President of Global Services, on a regular basis as to the status of early adopter projects and global design trends.

Conduct site visits in various markets to study Marriott brand direction and study competitor and market trends.

Maintain a continuing awareness and knowledge of technological advances, innovations and cultural shifts while continuing personal development.

Budget And Financial Responsibility

Create and manage annual budget as it relates to headcount, costs, programs and projects (development and project basis).

Working Relationships

Reports to the Senior Vice President of Global Services.

There are strong non-reporting relationships with disciplines within Marriott which must be maintained in order to achieve success. It is the responsibility of this position to maintain open and trusted lines of communication between peer groups within the department, brand management, hotel operations and core services.

Other Technical/Specific Responsibilities

Ability to understand business issues and make appropriate decisions.

Contract management and negotiating skills.

Project scheduling basic knowledge, as well as ability to effectively schedule multiple resources

General knowledge of Design Management, Project Management, Project specifications, Procurement, Estimating, Construction Management (including field supervision) and Accounting.

Ability to follow-through with attention to detail.

Specific Candidate Profile

Minimum 4 year degree in Interior Design or related field from an accredited institution, and 20 years progressive experience in hospitality design.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong leadership and management skills

Good negotiating skills

Should command the ability to influence and manage the interior design process without having direct control over the discipline

Requires a basic knowledge of lodging development, construction and renovations
