Job Description
Manages the plant Quality and the Process Engineering groups. Plans, designs, and implements quality manufacturing processes. Directs work on solutions for all process manufacturing and quality problems using the Six Sigma problem solving process. Oversees quality certification efforts and day-to-day quality and engineering activities. Responsible for leading the local quality effort and creating an environment of continuous quality improvement. Coordinates with Corporate Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Manufacturing to achieve division and quality objectives. Responsible for departmental budgeting and performance of subordinate personnel.
Specific Responsibilities
Identifies tasks needed to be performed to achieve these goals, acts on those tasks, and evaluates progress toward their achievement.
Jointly with materials management, manufacturing, quality, and engineering personnel, identifies opportunities to improve processes, materials, designs which lead to reduced cost of quality and improve productivity and customer satisfaction.
Develops and installs quality assurance systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements.
Assists production in resolution of quality, productivity, timeliness, and cost problems; supplying technical information and assistance where needed. Serves as a specialist in specifications, processes, methods, and equipment.
Conducts root cause analyses and implements corrective actions in response to customer feedback.
As necessary, accompanies customer/corporate representatives on audit.
Consults with other staff members to control costs and reduce scrap and rework to a minimum.
Leads quality training program and quality events.
Completes and approves Certificates of Conformance, Compliance, and Analysis as required.
Reviews vendor orders for non-conformance and generates corrective action.
Installs and maintains an ISO 9000, TL9000, and nuclear based quality systems and certifications.
Directs operation to achieve budgeted results.
Responsible for the performance review and development of assigned staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.Required Skills
Bachelor degree in a related engineering discipline
Black Belt in Six Sigma
Required Experience
10+ years of experience in engineering
Lean Manufacturing experience
Demonstrated continuous improvement activities
Demonstrated people management experience
Battery and/or electrical process and quality experience a plus
