Description

The Surveillance and Reconnaissance Business Unit (SRBU) has an opening for a Senior Software Security Engineer to be located in Ft. Meade, MD.
Candidate serves as a systems software security engineer, playing a key role in safeguarding data and systems from unauthorized access, alteration or compromise. Ensures the integrity, dependability and availability of systems, networks and data through planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of information systems programs, policies, procedures and tools. Ensures implementation of appropriate systems security policies, and ensures the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices in the delivery of information technology (IT) services.

Key Knowledge And Skill Sets

  • Working knowledge of C/C++ and JAVA languages including having written code to support customer/company projects.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages including PERL, BASH, including having written scripts to support customer/company projects.
  • Knowledge of SQL and database programming.
  • Deep understanding of how SSL/TLS works to secure connections, provide data integrity and non-repudiation and infrastructure components.
  • Deep understanding of how PKI works, including how to implement it in software in accordance with FIPS 140 requirements.
  • Knowledge of and experience with application security from a developers perspective i.e. functions to avoid, how an application can be compromised
  • Working knowledge of and experience with performing code reviews for potential security issues.
  • Assess new systems design methodologies to improve software quality.
  • Quickly assess unfamiliar software to understand its implementation by observation and testing.
  • Knowledge of programming and structured application development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of GNU compilation and build tools along with development structure.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and underlying implementation.
  • Knowledge of collaborative configuration management tools such as subversion or git.
  • Working knowledge of Identity Management Systems and associated security requirements and concerns.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interact with staff, other groups, and contractors, and to coordinate efforts to promote awareness of technical security issues.

    :

    Required Degree, Certification And Clearance

  • A bachelors degree in systems engineering or computer science or a related field plus ten (10) years of experience in information technology methods and practices, including information assurance.
  • An information assurance / security certification such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
  • A final, active Secret clearance.

    • Desired Skills

  • Experience programming Client/Server applications.
  • Experience with Windows, Solaris (SPARC and x86), and Linux.
  • Experience with Oracle WebLogic, JBOSS, or similar Application Servers.
