Lifecycle Product Innovation Sr. Manager Position Information Company Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (SEA)Location San Jose, CaliforniaTravel Required 6 - 10%Description PositionSummary Starting 2010, Samsung Electronics is expanding home appliance product portfolio. Samsung home appliance product categories planned to be sold in the US in 2010 will include total kitchen solutions such as, dishwasher, refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, etc. as well as washers and dryers and vacuum cleaners. (With the help of market intelligence staff,) the sr. manager /manager will be analyzing consumer lifestyle data related to food/kitchen, clothing and cleaning trends and needs and will develop insights relevant to the American consumers. This individual will be tasked with generating market relevant and market driven (as suppose to engineering driven) new product concepts that are relevant to the US market and that can contribute to the growth of our home appliance/lifestyle product. In short this is a position for a market driven fuzzy front end concept generation professional for the home appliance products. Common EssentialDuties & Resp.
  • Design, conduct and analyze findings from quantitative and qualitative market research to understand competitive landscape, market trends, consumer trends and needs and formulate market driven consumer insights
  • Work with outside design and innovation agencies (such as IDEO) as well as internal design group to develop market driven concepts, driven by functional value proposition.
  • Internally collaborate with design group, North American market research team, technical team and the sales and marketing team to get inputs for developing concepts and ideas.
  • Interact with the channel partners such as Best Buy and Rowes to conduct joint research and/or to collect channel partner related insights and requirements
  • Construct insight to product concept document collaborating with outside creative resources and manage content, creative assets/visualization
  • Lead communication between the business unit in Korea, the regional sales and marketing team in the US when developing product concepts
  • Lead communication with creative agencies and manage agency alignment and performance
  • Advise the business for optimizing strategy and roadmap for home appliance/lifestyle products for US product portfolio
  • work with American Lifecycle Center in Chicago and other home appliance related industry organization to understand the standardization, technical trend and requirements in products to reflect on to the new concept generation activities
  • Participate in trade shows, seminars and workshops related to home appliance products and lifecycle trends Necessary Skills /Attributes ? Must have genuine interest and passion in consumer driven new concept generation and interest in lifecycle products ? For sr. manager position, minimum 10 years combine experience in product management, product planning, product design or design/innovation consulting with top design or market research firms. ? Solid knowledge in fuzzy front end new concept generation, consumer research methods and knowledge in product planning ? Ability to generate insights from consumer data ? For manager position, minimum 7 years experience in the same field as above ? Must be able to create product strategy document, including ability to put ideation and concept frameworks using market insight data ? Must be able to understand or capable of understanding basic and core technology that drives lifecycle products and be able to match with consumer needs ? Must be highly creative, innovative and design/consumer minded ? Minimum Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University, advanced degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered with good track record ? Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office ? Knowledge in graphic tools such as InDesign highly recommended but not a must ? Must have good networking into market research firms (tranditional and non-traditional), innovation agencies (e.g., IDEO) ? Must be willing to travel internationally ? Must be comfortable working with multinational team members and must be able to navigate through working environment where collaboration partners might not be able to communicate fluently in English ? Requires frequent conference calls between overseas office during evening hours ? EXCELLENT presentation skills and the ability to effectively deliver information to senior executives. ? Ability to run ideation session and have knowledge in ideation methods and tools ?
