Title: Transit - IT Programmer / Systems Analyst - Forestville, MD
Location: Maryland-Forestville

The position functions as a technical systems analyst and programmer responsible for assisting in the acquisition, maintenance, development, implementation and integration of transit data fundamental to the Nextbus system. The Technical Systems Analyst is responsible for streamlining the timetable development and layout procedures using state of the-art software packages including Database Management Systems (DBMS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The position is required to assist in the analysis, review, preparation and implementation of the Nextbus project. The position maintains a mobile Geographic Information System (GIS) containing a complete set of bus routes and patterns and bus stops. This data set is fundamental to the data infrastructure critical for the integration of the scheduling system and all data subsystems. Additional responsibilities include an active participation in the ongoing Bus Systems Integration program with particular reference to bus operations data. Serves as bus systems database expert.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of three years Linux/UNIX systems support experience required. Linux/UNIX experience required. Knowledge of scripting and programming languages such as C/C , Visual Basics, Java, .net, xml, Perl, Ruby, HP, and/or UNIX/Android shell programming required. Preferences: Redhat Enterprise Linux, Windows, Solaris, and Cisco IOS experience preferred. Puppet, SQL, PHP, Java, and web application programming experience strongly preferred. Supervisory experience with junior/hourly paid administrators helpful. Strong organizational and customer service skills with the ability to work in a team environment, meet deadlines and resolve user issues promptly and in a satisfactory manner. Experience in a transportation setting whereby merging programming with route planning in deploying a google GTFS feed for a transportation agency is highly desirable. Hands on experience in developing and maintaining LAMP is a must.
