Tools for Software Engineers (TSE) was formed with former members of Microsoft Research (MSR) and product teams, with a mission of improving engineering productivity across Microsoft. We do so by building developer services at Microsoft Scale using Cloud technologies.. We are collaborating closely with product groups to architect, design, and implement foundational engineering infrastructure. We like big challenges and have a high-performance team. We are looking for passionate engineers and applied system researchers, with experience and passion in operating systems, distributed systems, programming languages, data analytics and, of course, software engineering tools. At TSE, you can make a broad impact across the company and industry.

As a member of this team, you will participate in all stages of our engineering lifecycle - from initial research and discovery, quick iteration on promising concepts, solution prototyping and development, all the way through successful service roll out to other Microsoft teams. Our results will be refined by exploiting data and we are passionate about having a culture of learning fast and constantly iterating towards success. You will have the opportunity to wear multiple hats and demonstrate breadth, depth, and leadership.

To be successful in this position, you should have direct exposure to data mining and analysis, business intelligence, databases and data warehouses, and large-scale engineering infrastructure and tooling. You will be a prolific coder and willing to learn from current research across the industry and within Microsoft. You need to be good communicator, able to analyze and clearly articulate complex issues and technologies understandably and engagingly. The solutions you help create will have a multiplier effect across all of Microsoft.

We are currently working building the foundation infrastructure for engineering data analytics with collecting data on code, bugs and people from across the company which we want to follow with data on builds, code reviews and tests. We have aggressive timelines and are actively partnering with product groups across the company.
