Job Summary And Mission

This job contributes to Starbucks success by obtaining accurate product and consumer testing data and providing recommendations that ensure optimized product acceptance and on-going product quality. The job scope covers all aspects of sensory science, experimental design, and consumer insight from a product focused perspective. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Develop and test methodologies and tools to support Starbucks product portfolio needs. Develop and train expert sensory panels for quality and discrimination testing. Train and provide oversight to Laboratory Assistants in the execution of tests.
Leverage external testing and consulting services to gather and manage data from a variety of consumer-based behaviors and inputs. Build and maintain relationships with assigned Joint Venture partners, internal support functions, and professional associations.
Propose, recommend and conduct scientifically based quantitative product research that supports business-based decisions and initiatives. Propose, recommend and conduct qualitative testing to direct product development processes. Analyzes data using a variety of computational and statistical methodologies to arrive at conclusions. Reports on findings and make recommendations to customer groups.
Provide design of experiment support for Development customers. Manage shelf life and other discriminatory testing protocols.
Provide input into the department calendar and resources utilizing strategic initiatives to prioritize Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality (note that this requirement will only be provided on the job descriptions of nonexempt jobs)

Summary Of Experience

Sensory training and test execution for a food or beverage company including focus group and other qualitative testing 5 years
Designing experiments and analyzing data using statistical software 3 years
Product development experience in food/beverage, preferred years

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Ability to set priorities and meet objectives in a fast-paced environment
Ability to use computers and related software, including word processing and spreadsheets
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
Ability to be an ambassador of the Company to current and potential internal and external partners, clients and customers
Ability to extract and apply data from various databases
