Description

Monitors and ensures the safety and well-being of camp facilities and buildings to ensure compliance with housing rules and policies and to protect the safety of camp staff and children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position summary should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position summary.

Ensures buildings are unlocked in the morning for camp activities;

Ensure all staff and campers are in their quarters by curfew and remain in their personal living quarters throughout the night;

Secures and locks all buildings after curfew;

Monitor camp facilities throughout the night;

Maintain the security of all sleeping areas and buildings by conducting security checks throughout the night;

Keep security log of all incidents. Log to be turned into Camp Director each morning and bring to the Camp Directors attention of any incidents that need immediate attention;

Serve as a transport person for emergency trips;

Keep personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.

Required Experience

Knowledge of security practices and procedures;

Ability to influence and control human behavior and enforce security rules and guidelines;

Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and effective manner.

Mental And Physical Abilities

Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff;

Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques;

Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity;

Ability to meet attendance requirements;

Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

Working Conditions

Some physical requirements of the Security position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate security equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.

Required Education

Six months experience working with the public with experience work in a security or social service environment preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Additional Comments

Camp Staff Orientation is from June 17th – June 23rd. Head Camp staff must report to Camp Tomahawk by 12:00pm on June 15th. Camp Sessions run from June 24th – July 27th. Camp staff will be released at 12:00pm on July 28th. Please let us know on your application if you are unable to stay for the entire camp season. Orientation is not optional.

Camp Tomahawk is a residential camp. All camp staff members are required to stay on camp grounds while camp is in session. Each week, camp staff must report to camp by 6:00pm on Sunday night and must stay at camp until all campers have been picked up on Saturday morning.
