Description

Provides child care services for the staff's children including personal care, hygiene, learning and development activities and specialized programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position summary should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position summary.

Provide care to staff children throughout the day, making sure that they have partaken of meals and that they maintain proper personal habits;

Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of child care property;

Assist in keeping DYS's quarters neat and clean each day;

Assist with putting staff children to bed, as needed;

Aid in household duties, such as laundry.

Other Resonsibilities

Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions;

Sit with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed;

Keep personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection;

Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director;

Required Experience

Knowledge of the principles and practices of child and youth behavior and development;

Ability to build and maintain effective mentor and professional relationships with children and youth;

Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff;

Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and evaluate subordinate personnel;

Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.

Mental And Physical Abilities

Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff;

Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques;

Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity;

Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers;

Ability to meet attendance requirements;

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Working Conditions

Some physical requirements of the Childcare position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Required Education

Experience working with children preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Additional Comments

Camp Staff Orientation is from June 17th – June 23rd. Head Camp staff must report to Camp Tomahawk by 12:00pm on June 15th. Camp Sessions run from June 24th – July 27th. Camp staff will be released at 12:00 PM on July 28th. Please let us know on your application if you are unable to stay for the entire camp season. Orientation is not optional.

Camp Tomahawk is a residential camp. All camp staff members are required to stay on camp grounds while camp is in session. Each week, camp staff must report to camp by 6:00pm on Sunday night and must stay at camp until all campers have been picked up on Saturday morning.
