Under the direction of the Camp Manager, assist in the maintenance and repair of the camp's buildings, grounds, equipment and other facilities consistent with the mission and established policies and procedures of the camp.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position summary should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position summary.
Reports to Camp Manager for assignments and work schedule;
Meets with Program Director daily to make sure assigned meeting space are set up and cleaned properly;
Ensure that Maintenance employees have needed materials to continue work until completed;
Trains and monitors the activity of the Maintenance;
Keep the Maintenance crew on task. Ensure they follow thru with all assigned duties;
Advise Camp Manager of completed duties and other needed work assignments;
Report to Camp Manager any problems with the Maintenance crew;
Maintain camp grounds by operating necessary grounds care equipment such as mower, tractor, chain saws, etc., in safe and efficient manner;
Be aware and make necessary changes to hazards found on camp grounds;
Ensures all equipment remains in proper working order and compliance with standard operating procedures and safety standards;
Lock and secure all equipment when not in use;
Perform janitorial and general maintenance duties in buildings and areas designed. (Sweep, scrub, wax floors, wash windows and screens, pressure wash, etc.);
Dispose of trash and waste from camp facilities and camp ground daily;
Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state, and federal guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards;
Assist with the set-up, clean and re-set meeting areas and rooms throughout the day as needed;
Assist with camper luggage on opening and closing days;
Operate a Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver materials;
Take water to water areas as assigned.
Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions;
Sit with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed;
Keep personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection;
Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
Ability to work on a team, relate and work well with others;
Self-starter and organizer;
Ability to accept guidance, direction and supervision;
Proficiency in the safe and proper use of power equipment and tools, heavy and light machinery and building materials;
Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of campers and other staff;
Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children;
Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.
Mental And Physical Abilities
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff;
Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques;
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity;
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers;
Ability to work with children outdoors in various conditions;
Ability to meet attendance requirements;
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language;
Ability to observe children and youth and ensure their safety.
Some physical requirements of the Maintenance Supervisor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate maintenance equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.
Two years' experience in a facility and site maintenance, construction, or grounds keeping business preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
$255 Per Week
Camp Staff Orientation is from June 11th - June 16th. Camp Session runs from June 17th - July 27th. If for whatever reason you are unable to be here for the entire season please let us know on your application. Orientation is not optional.
