Duties

The Applications Engineer is responsible for performing industrial and utility air pollution control equipment proposal preparation duties including but not limited to:

  • Analysis and clarification of customer inquiry specifications
  • Selection of appropriate equipment, sizing, and configurations
  • Preparation of proposals, and participating in related selling support activities.

    Assignments involve a wide range of equipment applications where established design precedents are available, with limited modifications required.

  • Essential Functions

  • Receives new opportunity proposal assignments from manager including information such as customer inquiry and specification data, guidance as to nature of customer's process and similar applications engineered previously, recommended key sizing parameters from product technology manager and any non-standard requirements, applicable deadlines, etc.
  • Studies and analyzes customer specifications and utilizes Client RSM/rep organization contacts to communicate with customer representatives to clarify proposal development requirements as necessary
  • Performs various standard engineering calculations to determine optimum sizing, configuration and overall design selections of equipment, systems and subsystems for meeting customer requirements
  • Attends site visits and customer meetings as warranted
  • Uses established computer programs where possible
  • Prepares design data sheets showing all technical information required for proposals and use by other departments such as Estimating and Design Engineering
  • Coordinates preparation of proposal drawings, and answers technical questions by drafting and designer personnel
  • Confers with designated engineering personnel and/or product technology manager for assistance on unusual technical problems encountered.
  • Prepares complete proposal data package, using standard formats, and including description of equipment to be supplied, drawings, specifications, consolidates exceptions/clarifications taken to customer specifications and reasons, scope of work to be performed, recommended pricing, secures corporate review of commercial terms and conditions, oversees preparation of project execution schedule, confirms performance guarantees and warranties, etc.
  • Submits completed proposals to manager and other designated personnel for review and revision as necessary prior to customer submittal
  • Follows up and expedites support functions which contribute information for proposal and selling activities
  • Provides “As Sold” document package to the Project Manager and attends contract kick-off meeting
  • Conducts liaison activities with various parties such as RSMs and representatives of sales organizations and customer representatives, key equipment and/or service suppliers, and internal departments including Design Engineering, Project Management, Field Service, Estimating, Construction, Purchasing, etc. to clarify specifications, obtain or provide information, discuss and resolve mutual problems
  • Keeps manager informed of difficulties encountered
  • Prepares regular and special reports on activities, as required
  • Assists other proposal engineers on their assigned projects to fill in for absences, relieve peak workloads, etc.
  • Keeps abreast of latest developments in air pollution control products, design
